As some of you know I have been working at the University of Georgia for six months in a “full time temporary” position as an IT Professional Associate. This basically means I get 40 hours a week with no benefits and a lower pay rate. After interviewing for a full time with benefits position (and not getting it) I made a good impression on the hiring committee who recommended me for the job I have now. I took the position to get my foot in the UGA door and to get some experience in the UGA system.
With that said I recently applied for two full time (with benefits) jobs at UGA, and today received an email asking to setup an interview for one of the jobs! This job is maintaining and supporting three on-site speech labs and 40 faculty, staff and grad students in the Comparative Literature & Germanic/Slavic Languages Department in Brown Hall. This job means a lot more responsibly for me and also comes with double the pay! My interview will be Tuesday (Aug 1st) at 10am, and I am very excited and nervous about it. I am really ready to get my career started and hope this is the job to do so. My current supervisors are really supportive of me moving up in my career and have offered me some tutoring (showing how things are down on an admin side of things) on software that I will be using more in dept at this job and also writing me a very nice letter of recommendation. I am hoping having some interviews under my belt and actually part of an interview committees will help me do my best at my interview. The start date of the job would be September 1st.
